The big brokerages have AI agents. Now the people they tender to do too.
Four agents, each with one job, one rule and one number it reports. Built for the carrier, freight agent and small fleet on the receiving end of the EDI tender, by the operator who lost a shipper there.
C.H. Robinson proved the idea at 37 million shipments.
In 2025 C.H. Robinson reported its generative AI agents had completed over three million shipping tasks, and that a quote that once took a specialist 20 minutes now takes 31 seconds. By 2026 trade press put its agents at quoting, booking, customs documents and emailed tenders, with a reported 45% productivity gain. That is the shipper and brokerage side of the transaction, automated.
Every one of those automated tenders still lands on a carrier or agent with a phone, an inbox and a one-hour window. That end has had no agents at all. It is where we were in February 2025 when the alerts stopped. FlowLine is the other half.
They automate the sending. We automate the answering.
Their Quote Agent sends a price in 31 seconds. Our Tender Agent makes sure the 204 that follows gets a 990 inside the window, every time, or a clean decline.
Their booking agents confirm the load. Our Check-Call Agent proves it's moving, from the driver's phone, with no app.
Their customs agents read documents. Our Paperwork Agent reads the rate con, BOL, POD and invoice and refuses to bill until they agree.
We want to be the ones who make this known: the small operator can run agents too, and the ones that matter are the ones that answer, track and bill.
Every agent started as something Ian did by hand at 5 a.m.
Ian Brown, owner and CEO of LIVE Global Logistics, started its hazmat side 15 years ago as an agent under a larger carrier, with a team that started at two people and grew to six. The IT department was not the one solving load problems. When a problem showed up, he solved it himself and then wrote the rule down so the team could run it:
- No drop-trailer program? Bought the trailers, built a weekly sheet of where each one sat.
- No pricing tool? Did every rate by hand, then built Power BI reports off 35,000 loads so the lane told him the number.
- Carriers going quiet? Wrote the four-rule memo: get the driver's number, copy the CDL, tracking on, three to five updates a day.
- Tenders stuck three systems away? Lost the account anyway. Then built the system that answers them.
Five in the morning, the day the shipper walked. No answer. There never was one. That silence is why FlowLine exists. Every phone call, every email, every delivery appointment, every lie caught and every problem solved on the way to the wins is in its DNA. Safety and compliance came first from the start of Ian's career at one of the largest carriers in the country, and they still come first here.
Milestones
- 2015Starts the hazmat side of LIVE Global Logistics as an agent under a larger carrier's authority. Two people, no drop-trailer program, no pricing tool. Buys the trailers and prices every load by hand.
- 2018The ELD mandate lands. The fleet goes electronic without losing a shipper. In September, Calvin, LIVE's Driver of the Year, texts: "It's the best job I ever had."
- By 35Working inside more than 15 Fortune 500 shipper portals, bidding and winning on pricing and procurement. Builds his own Power BI reporting off the load history.
- June 9, 2022Writes the four-rule memo after a load goes sideways on an account LIVE cannot afford to lose: driver's number, copy of the CDL, tracking on, three to five updates a day. Still the rulebook.
- 2022 to 2024The team grows from two to six. Past 6,000 hazmat loads a year. Responsibility for 75 people, drivers included.
- 2023The hazmat premium over dry van doubles to 20 to 23 percent. LIVE's own records catch it before the industry reports do.
- 2025A major shipper deactivates LIVE over tenders that reached the team too late. Three systems, one email alert, no explanation. The 5 a.m. with no answer.
- 2026Builds FlowLine alone, outside the day job, and publishes 11 years of rate data on the open web. At 40, blessed it happened: the skills came from it.
Why I keep going
I was a young man in my thirties with grown men counting on me. Drivers with families, with truck notes, with kids who needed the next load to come through. That weight is what drove me to build something great, and it is still one of the greatest achievements of my life.
Now I want to give back. I want to help smaller companies, agents and drivers make the transition: learn what AI can actually do for a freight desk, bring new process into the day without losing the handshake, and get what only the big carriers used to afford.
The drivers are who taught me this business. Every lesson in FlowLine came off a phone call with one of them. So to every driver, dispatcher, carrier and shipper who was part of what we built: thank you. None of it would have been possible without you.
Ian Brown · Owner and CEO, LIVE Global Logistics · Founder, FlowLine
In his words: "I created this so no one would ever have to go through what I did. Having the responsibility of 75 people, drivers included, was an honor." The agents below are those rules, running without him in the chair. Each one says what it does on its own and where it still hands the decision to a person. That line is drawn on purpose.
What each agent does, and the time it gives back.
Answers every 204 inside the window.
Watches for: an EDI 204 load tender from your VAN, gateway or FlowLine's API.
Does: reads the lane, dates, equipment, hazmat flag and rate; starts the shipper's response window (30, 60 or 120 minutes per tender); puts it in front of the owner with a countdown; builds and sends the 990 when you tap Accept or Decline; declines automatically at the deadline if nobody answered, so the shipper always gets a response; keeps every message with its timestamp.
Reports: tenders received, answered inside the window, auto-declined, average time to answer.
Finds the quiet load before the shipper does.
Watches for: location pings from the driver link, every five minutes while the page is open, and the clock on every moving load.
Does: issues a one-time tracking link per load that the driver opens from a text, no app; sets a check-call window by status (60 minutes in transit, 2 hours at pickup, 4 hours dispatched); turns the load yellow, then red, when the window passes with no ping; computes the autotrack percentage brokers put on your scorecard; updates ETAs from real positions.
Reports: loads at risk, overdue, autotrack percentage, pings per load.
Won't let a bad invoice out the door.
Watches for: a load moving toward billing.
Does: checks that a rate confirmation, bill of lading, proof of delivery and invoice are all on file; compares the amounts, the load and the parties across them; blocks a BOL number that has already been billed; holds the invoice and lists exactly what's missing or mismatched.
Reports: invoices held, reasons, duplicates blocked, time from delivery to clean invoice.
Puts a clock on every customer email and quote.
Watches for: customer emails and spot quote requests you log, with an owner and a backup.
Does: starts a 15-minute clock on emails and a 60-minute clock on quotes; shows what's waiting and who owns it; escalates to the backup when the clock hits 75%; keeps the record of when it was answered. Reading the inbox automatically needs Gmail connected on the server side, which is the next build.
Reports: messages waiting, answered inside the window, escalations.
Time figures are from our own operation at LIVE Global Logistics, a carrier and brokerage with a team that started at two and grew to six running up to 6,000 hazmat loads a year, not a vendor benchmark. Yours will scale with your load count. Where a person makes the call, the label says so.
Put the agents on your tenders.
