Real lanes

Lanes we have actually run.

City to city, from our own loads since 2015: median all-in rate per mile, median per load, the years we ran it and how many loads. 326 lanes with 10 or more loads, covering 21,000+ of our loads. No customer names, just the freight.

How we counted

Straight about the numbers.

These are loads LIVE Global Logistics, a hazmat carrier and brokerage, moved from 2015 to October 2026. Rate per mile is total charges divided by billed miles, so it includes fuel surcharge and accessorials. Loads under 50 miles, with no charges, or outside $0.80 to $15.00 per mile are left out. The hazard class comes from the DOT hazard category on each load's commodity description. Cells with fewer than 20 loads are marked thin. The data is one agent's book, heavy in the Southeast and Texas, so treat it as a real reference point, not the whole market.

How much does hazmat freight pay per mile?

In our 2024 to 2026 loads, Class 3 flammable liquids paid a median of $4.77 per mile at 250 to 499 miles, $3.54 at 500 to 749 miles and $2.71 at 1,000 to 1,499 miles. Class 8 corrosives were close behind. Dry van on the same bands paid $3.50, $2.80 and $2.36. Short hauls pay the most per mile and the least per load.

How much more does hazmat pay than dry van?

Hazmat paid 5 to 11 percent more per mile than non-hazmat from 2017 to 2022, and 20 to 23 percent more from 2023 to 2025. The gap is widest on 250 to 750 mile hauls.

Is this a quote?

No. It is what real loads paid, so you can tell whether a rate you're offered or quoting is high, low or normal for that class and distance. Your lane, dates, equipment and the market will move the number.
